Abstract
Teaching English seeks to increase English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ foreign language enjoyment (FLE) and academic resilience (AR) since both concepts make development in the learning process and also, they develop general English language learning. Therefore, this research attempted to inspect how these two variables and also language growth (LG) of EFL learners were affected by using student-developed tasks. To achieve this end, 70 Uzbek EFL students were chosen and divided into two groups of experimental and control. Next, the two groups were pre-tested on FLE, AR, and LG by three related tests. After that, three lessons of Touchstone 3 were instructed to the Experimental Group (EG) by utilizing tasks while the same lessons were taught to the Control Group (CG) without exploiting any tasks. After teaching the lessons to both groups, the post-tests of FLE, AR, and LG were administered to both groups. The scores in the pre-tests and post-tests were analyzed by using One-way ANCOVA test and independent samples t-test. The outcomes depicted that the EG outperformed the CG in the three post-tests. Using student-developed tasks increased EFL learners’ FLE and AR and helped them develop their English learning. The implications of this study can highlight the importance of using tasks in English learning and teaching.
