Abstract
The present study evaluated the appropriateness of an instructional model integrating Polling Software with the KWL Plus reading technique and examined its effects on Thai EFL learners’ reading comprehension skills. Participants were 31 secondary school students from a demonstration school in Bangkok, selected via cluster random sampling. Instruments included an evaluation form for the instructional model, lesson plans, a validated and reliable multiple-choice reading comprehension pretest and posttest, and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including paired-samples t-test, Cohen’s d for effect size, and relative development scores. Qualitative data were examined through coding technique and content analysis. Results showed the instructional model was highly appropriate, with unanimous expert consensus across four criteria: usefulness, feasibility, appropriateness, and accuracy. Paired-samples t-test revealed significant improvement (p < .05) in posttest scores, with a large effect size (d = 2.45), indicating a substantial positive impact on reading comprehension. RDS confirmed that 64.52% of participants demonstrated a high level of improvement in reading comprehension. Future implementation should address technological challenges while incorporating discussion-based activities to foster critical thinking and targeting additional skill areas such as anaphora reference comprehension to expand learning outcomes in diverse EFL contexts.
